Cineplex To Play More Films In French

Television Radio Canada has reported that Cineplex will be playing more films in French in their theaters, starting with the newly acquired theaters in the Maritimes.

I’m bilingual so I enjoy the odd French film. But I’ve had to travel to Gatineau, Quebec to view them in a theater or had to wait until it was released on DVD, blu-ray or on iTunes. And many French films are not readily available for rental outside of the province of Quebec or online so sometimes I don’t get to see some of these films until they air on television.

I’m hoping that if Cineplex decide to build a theater in my general area that it will include a smaller theater dedicated to foreign films.

The former Empire locations in Kanata and Orleans had been originally slated to be converted into Cineplex Theaters. But these were sold to Landmark instead.

Please note that the Landmark Cinema web site will be updated with the new locations on November 1st, 2013.

Theater Purchase Complete In Atlantic Canada

Twenty four Empire Theaters in Atlantic Canada have been converted into Cineplex Theaters and have opened today.

Cineplex had been cleared to purchase these theaters by the Competition Bureau on October 10th, 2013 and the company is awaiting approval for the remainder of its purchases in the rest of the country.

BTW, You can also rent films from Cineplex online on Tuesdays for as low as $2.50. SD films are available for that amount whilst a $2.50 discount is applied to HD rentals and film purchases on that day. Please note that this may be a limited offer that may expire at any time.

Empire Theaters Conversion Delayed

Cineplex had planned to convert some of the Empire Theaters they purchased across Canada by labor day this year. But I have been informed by a customer service representative that it has been delayed because of a regulatory issue.

I will post updates to this blog on this a.s.a.p.

Empire Theaters Is No More

It looks like my local theaters will again change owners, within a year of it’s conversion from an AMC Theater to an Empire Theater.

Empire Theaters west of Ontario have been sold to Landmark Cinemas whilst the Atlantic Canada locations have been sold to Cineplex Inc. But in Ontario itself all but two Empire Theaters have been purchased by Landmark Cinemas, the Kanata and Whitby locations having been purchased by Cineplex Inc.

AMC Theaters In Canada Converted

The AMC Theaters in Kanata and Whitby have been converted to Empire Theaters whilst the AMC Theaters in Mississauga, Oakville, Toronto and Montreal have been converted into Cineplex Odeon Theaters.
