Best Buy has decided to close all Future Shop locations throughout Canada to rebrand half of these stores.
According to their press release and web site, home deliveries from Future Shop’s site will continue through this transition and customers with items on layaway, reserved items and outstanding orders scheduled for store pick-up will be contacted shortly.
An additional investment of $200 million is expected and the company expects to “continue to have a strong store presence in all major markets in Canada” with additional staffing at the current and new locations to handle store to home deliveries.
Basically you either get $5 off select Blu-rays or $10 off select 3D Blu-Ray combo packs, one discount per individual DVD trade in.
Of both offers I’d say the Future Shop offer is superior because not only do they appear to have more Blu-ray titles to choose from but they also give people coupons that entitles Cinemanow members to rent films online at half price.
I managed to get “Anchorman II” on Blu-ray by trading in an old DVD at my local Future Shop and got Cinemanow coupons on my receipt for every Blu-ray I purchased. This coupon will expire next month, on May 22nd, 2014.
You’ll also notice that like “Anchorman II”, “The Amazing Spider-Man” is also on sale for $14.99. And although that Blu-ray isn’t an eligible title for the trade in offer, some of the $14.99 “Amazing Spider-man” Blu-Rays include a coupon for $10 off the purchase of a theater ticket for the new Spider-man film.
That coupon is found on specially marked packages and includes a code that you need to redeem on the Cineplex website.
I found the specially marked Blu-ray on a display with several other films that include the coupon. And that purchase also resulted in a Cinemanow coupon being added to my receipt.
These offer may not be available nationwide so check your local flyers for details.
You can once again trade in your used DVDs for a credit towards the purchase of select Blu-Rays at Futureshop stores until August 15th, 2013.
On select Blu-rays you will get $5 off. On select 3D Blu-ray Combos you will get $10 off. And on select TV Series Blu-rays you will get $15 off.
Trade-ins are accepted at the customer service desk, where you will receive a receipt coupon per individual DVD and DVD box set. And after you’ve redeemed these coupons you with receive an additional coupon for CinemaNow, enabling you to save $5 on select titles on that web site.
You can save $5 on select Blu-ray titles, $10 on select 3D Blu-ray titles and $15 on select Television series Blu-ray titles.
Over 80 titles are available for Trade-In in store at Future Shop, all marked with Trade & Save stickers. The amount of selections available at Best Buy Canada stores has not been published on their site.
Eight Future Shop and seven Best Buy stores are set to close though-out Canada as the company restructures their retail operations.

On the other side of the pond, HMV U.K is also restructuring and is not currently taking online orders via their site.
