FYI – Smart TV Cineplex App

I didn’t find any information online in regards to an issue I was having with the Cineplex App on my Samsung Smart TV so I thought I’d post this information.

I haven’t been able to watch films I’ve purchased online via the Cineplex app for a while now because the app asks to be updated. But the latest version listed is the version I have installed so I contacted Cineplex guest relations who got back to me yesterday.

Apparently they changed content providers and are still updating the app, which is expected to be released by the end of either this month or the next.

I’m hoping to take advantage of their Tuesday specials on rentals again a.s.a.p. But will probably either view Cineplex purchases on my computer or need to visit my local Redbox until the app update is released.

UPDATE: This app has been updated

Standardized 3D Glasses

Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and XPAND 3D have partnered to adopt a standard when it comes to 3D glasses.

In a joint statement, these companies stated that they “Will Seek Development of Joint Licensing on ‘BLUETOOTH® ENABLED RF’ and ‘IR’ Consumer 3D Active Glasses“.

A standardized version of these glassed are to be released next month whilst the full version, “with the new IR/RF protocols will be made available in 2012, and are targeted to be backward compatible with 2011 3D active TVs.”

New Streaming Movie Service Soon

Zip.ca and Samsung Electronics Canada have partnered to offer a new streaming service to Canadians.

According to the press release, Canadians will have access to thousands of films and television programs on their SMART Televisions, Blu-ray players and Home Theatre products from Samsung, though no commencement date is mentioned.

3D Concerts at Home ?

Samsung has just released their 3D TV televisions and Blu-Ray players in Canada via Bestbuy and Futureshop. And Sony will be releasing 3D televisions in Canada on June 25th via Sony Style Canada.

This technology will not only display 3D images from 3D broadcasts and Blu-Ray discs but will also simulate 3D from normal HDTV broadcasts and Blu-Ray discs, which is good because there aren’t that many 3D concerts and films out there on Blu-Ray yet.

I suspect we will seeing a few IMAX concerts on Blu-Ray soon, including the Rolling Stones, Jonas Brothers and U2 concerts that have been featured at the IMAX theaters, but I’m guessing that wont be seeing many of these releases until the technology becomes a standard, especially from lesser re-known performers.

But I bet Queen Rock Montreal and Live-Aid and Heart: Dreamboat Annie Live would look great in 3D.

Speaking of Queen and U2, “Queen Live In Montreal” will premiere on Treasure HD tonight at 8PM EST and “U2 – Rattle & Hum” will air on that channel on April 30th at 10pm EST.
