Competition FTW
Prime Day has started and the competition is heating up at Canadian Tire, Best Buy Canada, Microsoft Canada, Newegg Canada and The Source for electronics and home appliances:
- Canadian Tire is offering $30 worth of Triangle points on pre-tax purchases of $200 today (07/12), with reductions on various appliances, tools and equipment. There isn’t many offers when it comes to home entertainment but thought i’d mention them anyway.
- On the other hand Best Buy Canada and Newegg Canada are offering big discounts on home entertainment and appliances, so it may be worth your while to shop around.
- The Source has a good selection so if you can find something cheeper there you should know that they’re offering $20 discounts on $150 purchases. And Microsoft Canada has decided to lower their prices on their ASUS and Levono laptops, as well as their Surface line of tablets, laptops, etc.
- And cash back is available from Rakuten on most purchases at all of the above mentioned stores and others, as well as a $30 bonus if you’re a new user.
Early Prime Day Offers
Although Prime Day is scheduled for the 12th and 13th of July this year, there are offers available now from Amazon and Prime Video, the later being film rentals at $2.99 and lower.
Details are available at Amazon.ca and Amazon.com. And yes, Canadians with a prime membership in the states can take advantage of the offers at the latter. But you can only use the free shipping offers there for American addresses, which is fine if you have a lot of friends and relatives in that country. Or if you have a second residence or vacation home there.
I believe Americans can also purchase a prime membership here in Canada to ship some of their Amazon.ca orders within Canada.
Netflix / Optimum Offer
Optimum Points members can obtain 7500 bonus points when purchasing $50 gift cards for Netflix and Uber at participating Shoppers Drug Mart stores from Saturday, the 11th of June to Friday the 17th of June, 2022. Click here for more details.
Tech Tech Tech
Like Best Buy and The Source, Amazon Canada and Newegg offering up lots of tech items for their early Black Friday sales, whilst accessories are being discounted at Prime Cable.
Unfortunately, the flooding in British Columbia will cause significant delays with some shipments originating from the west coast, as will the current backlog in worldwide shipping, so you should consider buying early. But it appears that Black Friday shopping on the east coast is acceptable, so most imports from American retailers like Amazon.com and Sharper Image should be fine.
By the way, if you’re looking for Apple gift cards, you should note that a PC Optimum offer is available at select, participating Real Canadian Superstores until November 24th, 2021; You can get 5000 bonus points per $50 Gift Card purchase, up to a limit of 10 gift cards.
Comparison Shopping Time
Newegg Canada, Best Buy Canada, Indigo Books and Staples Canada have decided to have sales events of their own in response to Amazon’s two-day Prime Day event so you will have ample opportunity to do some comparison shopping starting at Midnight EST.
You won’t find much music and film-related items at Staples Canada, other than headphones and some other music accessories. But Newegg Canada and Best Buy Canada do offer home audio and home theatre components and accessories. And if you’re looking for Apple products you may want to check The Source out.
Indigo Books will also be discounting their book and tech items for their Plum members by up to 40% until Midnight on Wednesday, so you may want to check them out as well.
By the way, if you’re looking for speakers here’s an offer you may be interested in: Get 6 months of Disney+ with your Sonos.com purchase through Oct 31st
Happy shopping.
