{"id":1020,"date":"2011-03-02T05:30:23","date_gmt":"2011-03-02T10:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=1020"},"modified":"2011-03-02T05:30:23","modified_gmt":"2011-03-02T10:30:23","slug":"no-pandora-for-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=1020","title":{"rendered":"No Pandora For Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that <strong>Pandora<\/strong> will not be comming into Canada for quite some time.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to the <a href=\"http:\/\/business.financialpost.com\/2011\/02\/28\/pandora-founder-decries-canadian-barriers-to-entry\/\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Post<\/a>, <strong>Pandora<\/strong> founder <strong>Tim Westergren<\/strong> stated that the music streaming service has shelved their plans to expand into Canada because &#8220;the rates that have been proposed by the Canadian music rights societies are simply uneconomic&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Financial Post<\/strong> had previously published a <a href=\"http:\/\/business.financialpost.com\/2011\/02\/16\/web-radios-future-still-up-in-the-air\/\" target=\"_blank\">story<\/a> about the viability of web radio, resulting in this response by <strong>Pandora<\/strong>, a service that features over 80,000 artists, many of which are independent.<\/p>\n<p>One of the few services that have made it&#8217;s way north is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rdio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rdio<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slacker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Slacker<\/a>, services from which music can be streamed from the web to personal computers for $4.99 a month. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that Pandora will not be comming into Canada for quite some time.
