{"id":1649,"date":"2011-11-18T07:00:35","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T12:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=1649"},"modified":"2011-11-18T07:00:35","modified_gmt":"2011-11-18T12:00:35","slug":"it-makes-you-think-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=1649","title":{"rendered":"It Makes You Think, Again !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that the <strong>pending lists<\/strong> affair is not over.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2011, the major labels in Canada had settled a class action lawsuit against them for the unauthorized use and distribution of recordings, as well as unpaid mechanical and video royalties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EMI Music Canada Inc.<\/strong>, <strong>Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc.<\/strong>, <strong>Universal Music Canada Inc.<\/strong> and <strong>Warner Music Canada Co.<\/strong> had later in May 2011 agreed to pay approximately $50.2 Million dollars to songwriters and music publishers that had not been compensated the use of their works in certain compilations and live recordings. <\/p>\n<p>Well, <strong>Universal Music Group<\/strong> and <strong>Universal Music Canada<\/strong> is now suing the <strong>National Union Fire Insurance Company<\/strong> of <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>, their insurer, for their share of the settlement and other related expenses in the <strong>Supreme Court of the State of California<\/strong> in <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to their November 8th, 2011 complaint found on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/thr-esq\/universal-music-chet-baker-lawsuit-260608\" target=\"blank\">HollywoodReporter.com<\/a>, <strong>Universal Music Group<\/strong> had paid $14.4 million in damages and approximately $1.06 million in attorney fees and costs. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that the pending lists affair is not over.
