{"id":913,"date":"2011-01-07T15:15:27","date_gmt":"2011-01-07T20:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=913"},"modified":"2011-01-07T15:15:27","modified_gmt":"2011-01-07T20:15:27","slug":"cloud-filmtv-distribution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=913","title":{"rendered":"Cloud Film\/TV Distribution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six major film and television studios have partnered to bring a new technology to the market, allowing users to view television episodes and film on multiple devices with the ability to share this programming with six friends or relatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ultraviolet<\/strong> is the industry&#8217;s response to a reduction of sales of DVDs and Blu-rays in the United States in 2010, down 3% to 18.8 billion. <\/p>\n<p>Starting this summer, they&#8217;re hoping to transition from DVDs to this more flexible online distribution to take advantage of the booming digital downloads and streaming sales and rentals. And they have 46 retailers and device manufacturers on board, including <strong>Best Buy<\/strong>, <strong>Comcast<\/strong>, <strong>Samsung<\/strong>, and <strong>Toshiba<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There are two major hold outs at the moment though : <strong>Apple<\/strong> and <strong>Disney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apple<\/strong> had its own service but they are expecting to sign on because they allow <strong>Netflix<\/strong> already on some onf their devices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disney<\/strong>, on the other hand, has their own plans, for a similar technology called <strong>KeyChest<\/strong>, which is partly owned by <strong>Steve Jobs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>Mitch Singer<\/strong> of <strong>Sony<\/strong>, <strong>Ultraviolet<\/strong> will be fully implemented by 2011, allowing people to view material on cell phones, tablets, video game consoles and computers.
