{"id":934,"date":"2011-01-13T15:38:37","date_gmt":"2011-01-13T20:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=934"},"modified":"2011-01-13T15:38:37","modified_gmt":"2011-01-13T20:38:37","slug":"money-for-nothing-censored-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbymailcanada.com\/blog\/?p=934","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Money For Nothing&#8221; Censored In Canada ?!?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Don&#8217;t bother requesting the unabridged version of &#8220;<strong>Money For Nothing<\/strong>&#8221; in Canada, it has been censored.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right, this <strong>Dire Straits<\/strong> classic has been banned from the airwaves in Canada because of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsc.ca\/english\/decisions\/2011\/110112.php\">decision<\/a> by the <strong>Canadian Broadcasting Standards Council<\/strong> that found that because the song included the lyric &#8220;<strong>faggot<\/strong>&#8221; that it violated their <strong>Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Appearently a listener had complained after hearing the song on <strong>OZ FM<\/strong>, a station based in St. John&#8217;s, Newfoundland that broadcasts through-out Newfoundland and Labrador ; <strong>On February 1st, 2010<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I find it rather interesting that this chart topping, <strong>Grammy Award<\/strong> winning single had aired on radio since late 1985 without a complaint. It took nearly 25 years for someone to be so offended as to result in a complaint.<\/p>\n<p>A music video featuring the unabridged version of this song also aired quite frequently on <strong>Much Music<\/strong> and <strong>Musique Plus<\/strong> in the 80&#8217;s and 90&#8217;s. <\/p>\n<p>Also interesting is the fact that <strong>Elton John<\/strong> performed this song with <strong>Mark Knofler<\/strong>, <strong>Sting<\/strong>, <strong>Phil Collins<\/strong> and <strong>Howard Jones<\/strong> at <strong>The Prince&#8217;s Trust<\/strong> concert in 1986.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Don&#8217;t bother requesting the unabridged version of &#8220;Money For Nothing&#8221; in Canada, it has been censored.
