You can take advantage of this offer to buy one of my favorite Canadian music history books, like Bob Mercereau’s “The History of Canadian Rock ‘N’ Roll” or Martin Melhuish’s “Oh What a Feeling: A Vital History of Canadian Music: The Next Generation” or Christopher Ward’s “Is This Live? Inside The Wild Early Years of Much Music“.
I highly recommend these books, especially to Canadian music historians and fans of Canadian music from the 70’s and 80’s.
May The 4th Be With You
It’s Star Wars Day and you’ll be able to find special deals on Star Wars merchandise and soundtracks today, including vinyl.
My very favorite Star Wars soundtrack is of course the Original soundtrack for Return of the Jedi, which was recently re-released on vinyl both individually and in a 11 LP boxed set that includes all of the soundtracks.
This vinyl re-release includes the original four-page photo insert. But if you prefer compact discs, a boxed set including this re-release was also made available, with a DVD featuring the “Musical Journey” documentary hosted by actor Ian McDiarmid (Chancellor Palpatine) and a bonus CD containing interviews with composer John Williams and actor Harrison Ford.
The “Musical Journey” DVD, which also features music videos set to 16 of John William’s themes, was originally released with the soundtrack for “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”, which is still available from Amazon.ca and Amazon.com.
Here are other Star Wars related specials that are running today or this week:

Saga Retires

Progressive rock phenomenon Saga will be no more after 40 years.
Known primarily for 80’s hits “On the Loose”, “The Flyer”, “What Do I Know”, “Wind Him Up” and “Only Time Will Tell”, this Oakland, Ontario band had toured the world countless times, retaining a very successful career in Germany and Puerto Rico throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s.
Lead singer Michael Sadler will be rejoining the band this year, ten years after he had officially left the band, to perform on a farewell tour in Canada and Germany.
British Vinyl Sales Surpass Music Downloads
The BBC reported that vinyl sales have surpassed download sales last week.
The Entertainment Retailers Association have estimates vinyl sales in the U.k were £2.4 million whilst the download sales were valued at only £2.1 million.
Apparently vinyl has become a major gift item in the country and many British vinyl purchasers will keep their vinyl in mint condition, according to a poll conducted by the BBC.
