Record Conventions & More

There will be two record conventions and one comic book convention this weekend, all in Ontario.

The Ottawa Record Fair will be held at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre on Saturday, the 5th of October, 2024 from 11am to 4pm.

Admission will be $5 and multiple routes service the nearest bus stops on nearby Bank Street (1902 and 2487). Consult OC Transpo for additional information.

The Newmarket Vinyl Record & Collectibles Show will occur the following day, on Sunday October 6th, 2024, from 10am to 3pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 426.

Admission will be $5 and the nearest bus stops to the venue, bus stop numbers 2060 and 2074, are a seven minute walk south Muriel Street and on Gorham Street. Route 56 services these stops and York Regional Transit does have a trip planner.

The Ajax Comicon will also occur this Sunday at the Ajax Community Center, in the HMS Community Hall from 10am to 3pm.

Admission will be $5 or free for kids 12 and under. And the venue is serviced by two bus stops, numbers 2070 and 2079, with Route 224 on Durham Regional Transit.

Note that cash may be preferable at these events, so you may want to look for the nearest ATMs on the maps that were provided. And by the way, don’t forget that Prime Big Day Deals will be happening on the 8th and 9th at Amazon.ca, which includes deals on music, television & film, electronics and more.

Enjoy.

This Weekend’s Conventions

There are no record conventions this weekend but memorabilia collectors should know that multiple Comic Cons are schedules for Ottawa, Barrie and Belleville, Ontario.

The weekend long Ottawa ComicCon will be held at the EY Center from the 6th to the 8th of September, 2024.

Admission varies (Click here for information) and the venue is serviced by multiple major routes on OC Transport, including Routes 97 and 99 from Bus Stop 1076, which is located at the venue’s main entrance.

Attendees of the above mentioned convention should note that the Capital Trade Show is also occurring in Ottawa, on Sunday, the 8th of September, 2024 from 10am to 3pm at the Nepean Sportsplex, which is a short drive away via West Hunt Club Road from the EY Center.

Admission to this event is free, as is parking. And the venue is serviced by two major bus stops, 1652 and 1683. But unfortunately it takes around from an hour and 10 minutes to an hour 30 minutes to reach this venue from the EY Center by bus according to the OC Transpo Trip Planner.

The Barrie Comicon will be held at the Barrie Curling Club on Saturday the 7th of September, 2024, from 10 am to 3pm. And admission will be $5 or free for kids 12 and under.

The venue is serviced by routes 8A and 8B on Barrie Transit and the nearest bus stops to the venue are 289 and 873.

This venue is serviced by routes 5A and 5B on Belleville Transit, which are both a three minute walk away on nearby Dundas Street East.

Please note that cash may be preferred at these events.

Enjoy.

Comic Cons This Weekend

There are quite a few comic conventions this weekend, including two weekend long Anime conventions in Edmonton and Vancouver that are starting on Friday the 9th of August, 2024. And several day long comic conventions in Ontario, namely Orillia, Orangeville, Ottawa and Vaughan:

Animathon 2024 will be held at the Edmonton Convention Center tomorrow to Sunday, the 11th.

Day passes are pretty much sold out online but general admission will be available at the venue, which is a five minute walk from Central Station and also serviced by multiple bus routes by Edmonton Transit.

Anime Revolution 2024 will also be an all weekend event but will be hosted by the Vancouver Convention Center, which is serviced by the Vancouver Ferry Terminal and Waterfront Station on Translink.

Three day passes are still available and daily passes differ in price. Click here for additional information.

The Orillia Comicon will be hosted by the Roller Skating Place in Severn, Ontario from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.

Admission is $5 or free for kids 10 and under. But unfortunately, this is a remote venue so the nearest bus stop is 20 minutes away, on Murphy Road (at Highway 12), and there doesn’t appear to be a sidewalk from this stop to the venue.

The Vaughan Con will also occur on Saturday, the 10th of August 2024, and will be held at the Bellvue Manor from 10am to 5pm. But you should note that you have until the end of today, the 8th, to get a $20 pass (click here for details).

Admission will be free for kids 12 and under (if accompanied by an adult) but admission will be going up on the 9th. And the nearest bus stops are 3818 and 6346, which is service by Route 020 on York Region Transit.

The Orangeville ComiCon will be held from 10am to 3pm om Sunday, the 11th of August 2024 at the Orangeville Curling Club.

Advanced ticket and VIP ticket packages are still available by clicking here, but a $5 admission will be available at the venue, with kids under 12 getting in for free. And yes, the venue is serviced by the Green route on Orangeville Transit, which I believe may still be free.

The Capital Trade Show will again be held at the Nepean Sportsplex, this time from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, August 11th, 2024. And admission will be free.

The nearest bus stops to the venue are bus stop numbers 1652 and 1683, which are serviced by multiple major routes on OC Transpo.

Note that cash may be preferable at these events. Enjoy.

No major events this weekend, but…

Unfortunately it looks like nothing is happening this weekend when it comes to record conventions or Comic conventions. But at least we now know all four hobbits will be at the Ottawa Comicon in September, along with Monty Python‘s own John Cleese and Mr. T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick.

Shawn Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan and Elijah Wood will host “An Evening in the Shire with the Four Hobbits” on September 7th, 2024 at 8pm at the EY Center, which is of course located next to the Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International Airport and serviced by three major bus routes, Route 97, Route 99 and Route 197.

The two nearest hotels to this venue are also at the airport, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Fairmount Inn & Suites Ottawa Airport, which are a 12 minute walk away from the venue. But three additional hotels can be found a short, four minute drive up Uplands Drive, the Holiday Day Inn Express & Suites, Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton, which are serviced by Route 197.

You should note that Route 197 is a bit of a milk route but it brings people to the venue’s doors within 33 minutes and is safer that walking down the stretch of Uplands Drive in-between the venue and the hotels, which has no sidewalk and very little lighting.

Safety first!

By the way, the 5,000 PC Optimum Points bonus on $50 Google Play gift card purchases at participating Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores will end on Friday, July 26th, 2024 and these points will be added to your account 2 to 4 weeks later.

Ottawa Memorabilia Events & More

There will be two memorabilia collector events in Ottawa this Sunday and several others in Milton, Ontario and Grande Prairie, Alberta, that latter occurring over three days from Friday the 12th of July, 2024.

The first event of this weekend will of course be Grandecon at the Bonnets Energy Center, open from 2pm to 8pm on Friday, 10am to 7pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday, with various ticket prices that are listed here.

The venue has its own bus stop and is serviced by Route 01 and Route 03 on Grand Prairie Transit.

The next event, Milton Comicon, will be on Saturday, the 13th of July 2024 at the Milton Sports Centre Banquet Room from 10am to 3pm and admission will be $5 or free for kids 12 and under.

Multiple bus routes on Milton Transit service this venue, including Route 2 (at bus stop 2040) and Routes 7 and 8 (at bus stops 2176 and 2195).

The fifth annual Fanaticcon Ottawa will occur at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre on the 14th, from 10am to 5pm.

General admission to this event is $20 cash at the door or free for kids 12 and under. But VIP Admission appears to be still available at $22.63. And this venue is a ten minute walk from the Tremblay O-Train station over the Max Keeping Pedestrian Bridge. Or you can also choose to take the bus to stop numbers 7080 and 7081, which is serviced by Route 9 from the Hurdman O-Train station. Consult OC Transpo for additional information.

The other Ottawa memorabilia collector event will be the Capital Trade Show at the Nepean Sportsplex from 10am to 3pm, also on Sunday, and this event is free.

This venue is serviced by multiple bus routes operated by OC Transpo, including Route 75 which links to Route 88 at the Baseline Station, the later terminating at Hurdman Station, where Route 9 can be taken to the venue hosting the other, previously mentioned event. The travel planner on OC Transpo calculates that it takes an hour and a half to travel in-between the two venues.

Please note that cash is preferable at these events and ATMs may be available in the venue or nearby. And note that Early Deals at available at Amazon.ca, before Prime Day, which will be on the 16th and 17th of July this year.

Enjoy.

One Record Convention + Multiple Comicon

There will be multiple events this weekend, one of which will be a record convention. And yes, there are two comic conventions in Oshawa on Saturday, the first of June 2024.

CompasCon Oshawa is a pop up event that will feature multiple film, television and music related memorabilia, that will be hosted at the Royal Canadian Legion from 10am to 3pm. And admission will be $2.50 and kids under 12 get in for free.

The nearest bus stop to the venue are numbers 665 and 670, which are serviced by Durham Regional Transit.

The Oshawa Comicon will be hosted by the Harmony Creek Community Center from 10am to 3pm and admission will be $5 or free for kids 12 and under.

Multiple stops service the major intersection near this venue, which is serviced again by Durham Regional Transit. Note that both Oshawa event venues are linked by bus routes 410 and 902.

The Trenton Comicon will also be held this Saturday from 10 am to 3pm but at the Trenton Curling Club. And admission will be $5 or free for kids 12 and under.

The venue has its own bus stop, serviced by B Route on Quinte Transit.

The Toronto East (Scarborough) Vinyl Record & Collectibles Show will be held on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 at the Ellesmere Community Center from 10am to 3pm an admission will be $5.

This venue is serviced by multiple routes on the TTC.ca, a site that has a trip planner that can help you find the best options available. Just enter 20 Canadian Road as the destination. And yes, there is a nearby subway station, Ellesmere, which is located an 11 minute bus ride east of the venue.

The Capital Trade Show Sports Card and Comic Show will be held at the Nepean Sportsplex, also on Sunday, the 2nd of June 2024, from 9am to 3pm, with free admission.

This venue is located on the Transitway so it is serviced by multiple routes on OC Transpo, which now accept credit and debit cards via O-Payment.

Note that cash is usually the preferred currency at these events so remember to look for the nearest ATMs to the venues.
