This Weekend’s Events
There will unfortunately be no record conventions this weekend. But music, television and film memorabilia collectors should note that there are three ComiCons this weekend, in Angus and Collingwood, Ontario and Ponoka, Alberta:
The first event this weekend will be the Central Alberta Fanfest at the Ponoka Jubilee Library on Saturday, the 17th of August, 2024, from 10am to 4pm.
This event is free but there is no public transit to this venue.
—
The Collingwood ComiCon will also be held this Saturday, but at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 from 10am to 3pm.
Admission will be $5 and free for kids 12 and under. And the nearest bus stops to the venue are numbers 234 (on Crosstown Route) and 420 (on East Route), which are serviced by Collingwood Public Transit.
—
And finally, the Angus ComiCon will be hosted from 10am to 3pm by the Angus Recreation Center on Sunday, the 18th of August.
Admission is $5 and free for kids 12 and under. And unfortunately this venue is not yet serviced by public transit.

Remember, cash may be preferable at these events. Enjoy.
Comic Cons This Weekend
There are quite a few comic conventions this weekend, including two weekend long Anime conventions in Edmonton and Vancouver that are starting on Friday the 9th of August, 2024. And several day long comic conventions in Ontario, namely Orillia, Orangeville, Ottawa and Vaughan:
Animathon 2024 will be held at the Edmonton Convention Center tomorrow to Sunday, the 11th.
Day passes are pretty much sold out online but general admission will be available at the venue, which is a five minute walk from Central Station and also serviced by multiple bus routes by Edmonton Transit.
—
Anime Revolution 2024 will also be an all weekend event but will be hosted by the Vancouver Convention Center, which is serviced by the Vancouver Ferry Terminal and Waterfront Station on Translink.
Three day passes are still available and daily passes differ in price. Click here for additional information.
—
The Orillia Comicon will be hosted by the Roller Skating Place in Severn, Ontario from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.
Admission is $5 or free for kids 10 and under. But unfortunately, this is a remote venue so the nearest bus stop is 20 minutes away, on Murphy Road (at Highway 12), and there doesn’t appear to be a sidewalk from this stop to the venue.
—
The Vaughan Con will also occur on Saturday, the 10th of August 2024, and will be held at the Bellvue Manor from 10am to 5pm. But you should note that you have until the end of today, the 8th, to get a $20 pass (click here for details).
Admission will be free for kids 12 and under (if accompanied by an adult) but admission will be going up on the 9th. And the nearest bus stops are 3818 and 6346, which is service by Route 020 on York Region Transit.
—
The Orangeville ComiCon will be held from 10am to 3pm om Sunday, the 11th of August 2024 at the Orangeville Curling Club.
Advanced ticket and VIP ticket packages are still available by clicking here, but a $5 admission will be available at the venue, with kids under 12 getting in for free. And yes, the venue is serviced by the Green route on Orangeville Transit, which I believe may still be free.

The nearest bus stops to the venue are bus stop numbers 1652 and 1683, which are serviced by multiple major routes on OC Transpo.

Two Comicons This Weekend
Montreal’s largest communion convention, Otakuthon, will occur from the 2nd to 4th of August, 2024 at the Palais Des Congrès de Montréal.
Admission is obtained onsite (click for details here) and this venue has its own Metro Station, Station Place-d’Armes, whose Level 1 entrance has an ATM.
—
The Sudbury Comicon will be held on Saturday the 3rd of August 2024 at the Northbury Hotel & Conference Center from 10am to 4pm.
Admission will be $5 and free for kids 12 and under. And a trip planner exists on the city’s official transit website.

Note that cash may be preferable at these events. Enjoy.
No major events this weekend, but…
Unfortunately it looks like nothing is happening this weekend when it comes to record conventions or Comic conventions. But at least we now know all four hobbits will be at the Ottawa Comicon in September, along with Monty Python‘s own John Cleese and Mr. T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick.
Shawn Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan and Elijah Wood will host “An Evening in the Shire with the Four Hobbits” on September 7th, 2024 at 8pm at the EY Center, which is of course located next to the Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International Airport and serviced by three major bus routes, Route 97, Route 99 and Route 197.
The two nearest hotels to this venue are also at the airport, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Fairmount Inn & Suites Ottawa Airport, which are a 12 minute walk away from the venue. But three additional hotels can be found a short, four minute drive up Uplands Drive, the Holiday Day Inn Express & Suites, Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton, which are serviced by Route 197.
You should note that Route 197 is a bit of a milk route but it brings people to the venue’s doors within 33 minutes and is safer that walking down the stretch of Uplands Drive in-between the venue and the hotels, which has no sidewalk and very little lighting.
Safety first!

By the way, the 5,000 PC Optimum Points bonus on $50 Google Play gift card purchases at participating Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores will end on Friday, July 26th, 2024 and these points will be added to your account 2 to 4 weeks later.

The Kitchener Vinyl Market will be held at the Rabbid Fox Tavern from 11AM to 4PM on the 20th of July, 2024 and admission will be a donation to Strong Start Waterloo.
The nearest bus stops to this venue are bus stops 2052 and 2053, which are serviced by Grand River Transit, whose site does have a travel planner.
—

Admission information to this event can be found by clicking here. And in regards to public transit, the nearest bus stops to the venue are serviced by the Georgian route on Orillia Transit.
—
Please note that cash may be preferable at these events so you may want to find out where the nearest ATMs are to these venues. And by the way, Prime Day is still active at Amazon.ca and similar offers on some products are also available at Best Buy Canada until midnight today, Pacific Time, which is 3am Eastern.
Enjoy

This venue is serviced by multiple bus routes operated by OC Transpo, including Route 75 which links to Route 88 at the Baseline Station, the later terminating at Hurdman Station, where Route 9 can be taken to the venue hosting the other, previously mentioned event. The travel planner on OC Transpo calculates that it takes an hour and a half to travel in-between the two venues.
