The Moon. Beautiful. The Sun. Even More Beautiful.

Oh Yeah from Yello on Vimeo.

Thirty years ago this month Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was released and through the films soundtrack I was introduced to this odd Swiss synth-pop house duo called Yello through a song called “Oh Yeah“.

Although the 45 single was released in a nondescript generic sleeve here in Canada it has remained in my collection all these years for two reasons – The vinyl was yellow and it included my very favourite remix of the track, the Indian Summer Remix.

The later could be found on the 12 inch single in the states and I believe a remix album. But it didn’t make it to compact disc until the 20th anniversary remastered re-release of Stella so I had been forced to make a copy of it to cassette to keep listening to it – A smart choice seeing that I must have listened to it a thousand or so times in 1986 alone.

You can listen to the Indian Summer Remix on Spotify by clicking here.

Martha & The Muffins Campaign

Martha & The Muffins are re-releasing “Mystery Walk” 30 years after its initial release in 1984 and donating 10% of the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

This album featured pop hits “Black Station/White Stations (1984)” and “Cooling The Medium”, whose innovative music videos were featured regularly on broadcasters Much Music and Musique Plus through-out the 80’s and 90’s.

You can pre-order digital and physical versions of the album via Pledgemusic, all featuring bonus content.

Finally Re-Released on CD

Platinum Blonde’s “Standing in the Dark", one of my very favourite Canadian new wave rock albums, has been remastered and re-released on compact disc to celebrate its 30th Anniversary.

This album has been available on iTunes since 2010 and the band is currently on tour promoting its release.

Arias & Symphonies – 30th Anniversary

Yes, it’s been 30 years since The Spoons released their second album, “Arias & Symphonies“. And the re-release not only includes live, extended and demo recordings from that album but several of the excellent Nova Heart remixes that were recently released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of that hit single.

I’m personally fond of the “Dark Before Dawn Mix” and “Singularity Mix” remixes found on the Nova Heart Mix EP, but the radio edit of the dubstep electro house “Singularity Mix” is available on the “Arias & Symphonies 30th Anniversary” re-release, along with the title track, which is one of my favorite 80’s pop singles.
