I Love Weird Film & TV Stuff
Most of what I collect is music related; CDs, music video compilations and live concerts on DVD and blu-ray, the odd poster, t-shirt and baseball cap. But I also love the occasional weird film or television related product, like the “The X-Files: Is the Truth Out There?” Little Golden Book, and I’ve since spotted a few items related items I have since added to my Wishlist, like the “A Is for Alien: An ABC Book” and “JAWS: Big Shark, Little Boat! A Book of Opposites” Little Golden Books
I haven’t collected any music related Funko Pops yet, mainly because I’m sure I would spend way too much on them. But a new Jaws Funko Pop has caught my eye, which will be released on December 30th this year in Canada.
The British will get it earlier on September 10th and Americans will get it on September 30th so I’m hoping I might get it earlier, along with the Jaws Little People Collector Set, which has been available for a while. But yeah, Funko Pops would definitely be a dangerous rabbit hole for me.
A Def Leppard one here, a Queen one there… It would add up quick. 🙂
Yeah, I’m not made of money so I’m very, very picky when it comes to collectibles. And the only figurine I have ever purchased was a die cast metal figure of Gort from the original 1951 version of “The Day The Earth Stood Still“, which was made by Rocket USA.
I am somewhat interested in “The Prisoner” collectibles like the Mini Moke Taxi, but I’m not going to break the bank for them. And I’d actually rather purchase the ever elusive Japanese version of Platinum Blonde‘s “Standing In The Dark” before dumping hundreds on one of those. It’s the only LP i’m missing from the band.
Priorities. Priorities.
BTW, you can stream The Prisoner for free on PLEX and watch “The Day The Earth Stood Still” on Apple TV, if you like classic films and television that is. And yes, like I said. I like weird stuff. 🙂
Live Magic – August 9th, 1986
Freddie Mercury’s last live performance with Queen was recorded on this day in 1986 in Knebworth, England. And this album, my first and one of my very favourite live albums, features some of this performance.
The other tracks featured on this compact disc, which is now only available as a Japanese import, were recorded a few days prior during The Magic Tour, at Wembley Stadium in London, England on July 12th, 1986 and the Népstadion in Budapest, Hungary on July 27th, 1986. And more complete recordings for those performances were released on DVD and Blu-ray.
Random Bump : Queen’s “Days of Our Lives”
Apparently people are complaining about the timeline in “Bohemian Rhapsody” so I thought i’d bump the official documentary “Queen: Days of Our Lives”.
This more in-depth, accurate film is available from Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and iTunes Canada. It is also available to stream via Prime Video USA.
Enjoy.
Queen’s Greatest Hits On Vinyl
Queen will be re-releasing their original Greatest Hits compilation and Greatest Hits II compilation on vinyl on Virgin EMI in the U.k.
“First released in 1981, Greatest Hits is the best-selling album of all time in Britain, standing alone as the first and only album to have sold over 6 million copies in the UK (6.1 million sales to date) with global sales in excess of 25 million. According to the Official Charts Company who earlier this year crowned it ‘Britain’s most popular album of the past 60 years’, one in four British households already own a copy of the album. Newly re-mastered as a gatefold-sleeve double vinyl album for the first time worldwide, these 17 tracks are now spread across four sides of 180 gram heavyweight vinyl, enriching the audio quality of a band rightly celebrated for their multi-tracked studio perfectionism. Deep, warm and luxuriant, this is exactly how Queen should sound.”
“Originally released shortly before Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991, Greatest Hits II has sold over 19 million copies worldwide. It spans 1981 to 1991, the period which followed Queen having dropped their famous no synthesizers rule elevating them to new heights of creativity. Opening up their guitar-heavy sound to embrace funk, disco and electronics resulted in rich rewards, transforming these former Seventies glam rockers into a glossy, streamlined, emphatically contemporary super-group.”
According to the official press release, these compilations will be made available in Canada and the United States though Hollywood Records in the new year but the above linked imported versions are being made available to Canadians in a few days.
40 Years of Bohemian Rhapsody
