Now for some unfortunate news for cinema fans in Quebec – Cinema Guzzo has closed all of their theatres in the province, immediately offering them for sale to cover their 39 Million dollar debts.
Cinestarz has secured their Dollard-Des-Ormeaux location and will be converting it shortly to their brand. But seven theatres remain unsold in the Montreal/Laval area.

Back to Square One
Unfortunately it appears that we’re back to the occupancy limits in most provinces, both in stores and in theatres, thanks to the Omicron variant.
Most music stores will remain open with the usual precautions, accepting proof of vaccination for access. But some movie theatres have decided to close or alter their schedules, and are offering refunds for pre-purchased tickets so keep an eye out for an email if you’ve purchased tickets recently.
Some live performances are being cancelled or rescheduled but many are simply waiting to see if the new variant will be controlled so keep an eye on your favourite band’s official site or Facebook group for details.
U.S and U.K Theaters Closing
United States chain Regal Cinemas and United Kingdom chain Cineworld may close temporarily due to the pandemic according to this official tweet:
We can confirm we are considering the temporary closure of our U.K. and US cinemas, but a final decision has not yet been reached. Once a decision has been made we will update all staff and customers as soon as we can.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that the delayed release of the latest film in the James Bond franchise, “No Time To Die”, may have caused them to consider these closures. And unfortunately, I suspect that some of the Canadian chains will do likewise due to the lack of the new content and that they will not reopen until after vaccines are made available to the general public.
“Wonder Woman 1984” had been delayed until Christmas 2020 and multiple films productions have slowed down due to the safety measures being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 so this truly was a bleak year for the film industry.
More Ontario Theatres Open
Cineplex Entertainment and Landmark Cinemas have opened several of their theatres in the province of Ontario, with limited showings and extra precautions to keep COVID-19 from being spread.
The newly converted Cine Stars Theatres in Western Ottawa and Burlington have also been opened with the above-mentioned precautions.
By the way, I’ve also noticed that Canadian Tire stores now sell both masks and face shields, although I couldn’t find the latter listed on their site. Disposable face masks are also available from your local Shoppers Drug Mart and Giant Tiger stores, as well as from living.ca online.
